For many years archaeologists and specialists in epigraphy
and paleography have been intrigued by ancient inscriptions which bore no
resemblance to the symbols or language of indigenous North American peoples.
I saw Ogam script near Neath in South Wales when I was a young student my
enthusiasm was renewed when I recognized that this same type of archaic
script was inscribed on rocks in Canada and in the U.S.A. Within these pages are lithic evidence of
people who inscribed them and new information, of ancient visitors to the
Americas in an age prior to the Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland and the voyages of John Cabot or Columbus
